Nolvadex (Tamoxifen Citrate)
It is a Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator(SERM). It is used to treat and prevent breast cancer and also used to treat infertility via ovulation induction
Primary Medical Uses
- Breast Cancer Treatment: It is prescribed for adults (both pre-menopausal and post-menopausal women, as well as men) diagnosed with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) early, advanced, or metastatic breast cancer.
- Risk Reduction: It is used to lower the risk of invasive cancer in women diagnosed with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ). It is also prescribed as a preventative measure for individuals who have not been diagnosed with cancer but are at a statistically high risk of developing it due to genetics or family history.
Common Side Effects
Because Nolvadex alters estrogen activity in healthy tissues, it frequently causes symptoms similar to menopause:
- Hot flashes and night sweats
- Vaginal discharge or dryness
- Nausea and fatigue
- Mood swings or depression
- Thinning hair
- Mild weight gain or fluid retention
